939 was the number of pins used by AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) for one generation of their Athlon 64 family of micro processors.  Now superseded and with hind-sight it’s easy to say it didn’t last long and wasn’t particularly successful, however, that would be a mistake as it was a good socket with some great processors produced for it.  It just happened to be over taken by the relentless march of technology development.
